The next two paragraphs deal with my thoughts on the two main political parties. This is an atheist site and I can't promise that I will not bring up politics again. This is article's focus is religion in politics. If you don't feel like reading about politics or feel like I may diss your favorite political party, please scroll past the red text.
Let me start out by stating my political affiliation. I have none. I am nor Democrat or Republican. They all remind me of religious leaders. They would rather tell you what you would like to hear instead of what they truly believe and the basic facts of the situation. To ally myself with a political party is way too much like picking a religion. Most of it has to do with how you are raised.
Democrats have no true platform. They seem to argue and bicker with one another all the time. Their political agenda is halfassness. By halfassness, I am saying that they like to go along with whatever minority will vote for them during a campaign. They are for black people but will do little to change the lives of black folks. When gays want their rights, they stand by them 100% and promise them the world. I am still waiting on them to have equal rights. I don't necessarily believe in aliens, but I know one thing. They would vote Democrat and soon after will get lab tested like they tried to do E.T. Fuck them. They only care about votes.
The thing that you have to respect about Republicans is their platform. It seems to be whatever the varied majority of old white men want. If you think that places like El Paso, San Antonio, San Deigo, and Santa Fe are no place for Mexicans; you want tougher border laws. If you think that " A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." means that you can walk around with handguns; you're probably a Republican. Once you start thinking that Gay Marriage will turn your kids gay; You will probably elect a Republican to stop all the "gay shit". Finally if you like bad Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a redneck" jokes; you might be a Republican.
Real quickly, let's talk about the eighties and mid nineties. The biggest victory for the Christian Right was the election of Ronald Reagan ..twice. After two presidential bids for the most senile president ever, it was time for a new POTUS in 1987-88. A few people ran. Most notably was the VP Bush and Pat Robertson. You may remember article on Pat Robertson. If not, click here. Bush ended up winning, but Pat Robertson actually did win two states. That should have been a wake up call to let America know that some third world religious shit was coming. The next two presidents (Bush, Clinton) seemed middle of the road when it came to to religion. Bill Clinton never helped his party with his philandering ways. Al Gore lost the election to George W. Bush. The Christian Right was
George W. Bush as a president was awful. We can all see that. But once again, I am not talking politics per se. I don't want to get into the Republican Party or even Dubya. That asshole and his views are an entirely different subject. I want to talk about the Christian Right and how they have made the US a more ignorant, racist, xenophobic, country that is getting dumber by the day.
Abortion
I don't understand their obsession with fetuses. That is exactly what it is. A fucking fetus. They have no nervous system and can't feel a thing. The CR believes that embryos are real life babies despite the fact that most of them are pretty much monkeys during this time. There are absolutely far too many people in this country. There are also far too many crazy parents who either kill, molest, or fuck up their kids lives. Why should some other fucked up child be brought into the world. You are just making more shitty people. If a woman wants to do whatever with her body. That's her business.
In their perfect world, if you are raped, you better carry that rapists child and raise them without fail. It doesn't matter if it is through incest or if the victim is a child. Somehow this is a blessing. God does everything for a reason. If this is true, why not have the rapist be in the child's life as a father. After all, they do believe in a nuclear family. See how crazy that shit sounds?
Evolution
This is my biggest pet peeve. This is the thing that makes us a retarded country. Education used to try to pride itself on having the best answer. As long as you had the best answer, there was room for progress. We don't have that in this country anymore.
Evolution is not only the best answer. It has been proven OVER and over again through fossil records, DNA and common sense. That trumps the story of creation leaps and bounds. The story in Genesis is almost like believing that if you masturbate, you will go blind. If that were true, I would still have eyesight. I don't know what you were expecting me to say.
But Evolution goes beyond these church people. What about the kids? Think of all the children who could be taught what evolution really is. How many more scientists and doctors would we have that could possibly change the world. Better medicine, faster detection, longer life. All of those things could be accomplished through science.
Sex Education
Sex feels good. People love sex. People have sex. Easy enough. I don't understand why you wouldn't pass out condoms and teach sex education. The obvious alternative is more bastards and a better chance you will get AIDS. It's absolutely retarded to not protect citizens regardless of your personal faith.
The Middle East
I am still trying to understand the support for Israel. I don't want to spoil my three part blog about the nonsense over there in the Palestine. I will say that everything is based on belief and conjecture. It all comes from an ancient God of wrath. That type of God is not good for a peaceful resolution.
That doesn't stop the Christian Right from siding with Jews. You would think that they would still be up in arms about the whole "killed Jesus" thing.
The Separation of Church and State
This is not in the Bill of Rights. I wish it was. Back in the 18th century, people knew exactly what would happen when you mix religion and politics. Why is it that we don't understand this in 2010. They are completely seperate aspects of life. Religion thrives off of faith. Politics thrive off of trial, error, and results.
I am done for today, but not for good. Next week we will imagine a little bit. The hypothetical scenario will be he takeover by a Christian nation.
